Calaf is a small town in the comarca of Anoia, inland Catalonia. This 25 céntimos note was issued during the Spanish Civil War, when the breakdown of the Republican monetary supply — particularly the disappearance of small coin from circulation — forced hundreds of Catalan municipalities to print their own emergency fractional currency. The Generalitat de Catalunya eventually tried to regularize this chaos, but local issues continued regardless.

At 53 × 37 mm, these municipal emergency pieces are among the smallest paper issues in the entire Turró corpus. Survival rates are erratic — some Catalan local issues are genuinely rare, others surfaced in bulk from old municipal archives decades after the war.
