Bonete is a small municipality in Albacete province, Castilla-La Mancha. This 25 céntimos note is a wartime local emergency issue from the Spanish Civil War period, when the collapse of small-denomination coinage in circulation forced hundreds of Spanish municipalities to print their own scrip. These pieces were purely local instruments — theoretically redeemable at the issuing town hall, though redemption in practice depended entirely on which side won and whether the issuing authority survived intact.

Gari's cataloguing of these municipal emissions remains the primary reference for Castilian issues of this type. Survival rates vary wildly by town.
