Benifallet is a small municipality in the Baix Ebre comarca of Tarragona province, and this note belongs to the vast, chaotic family of locally issued emergency fractional currency — the moneda local — that proliferated across Republican-held Spain during the Civil War. When the hoarding of metallic coins stripped ordinary commerce of small change, hundreds of Spanish towns printed their own scrip almost overnight, with varying degrees of official sanction and even less standardized design.

Imprenta Querol in Tortosa served multiple municipalities in the region, which accounts for a certain visual consistency across several Turró-catalogued issues from the Baix Ebre area. The official stamp is the primary security device — without it, the card was notionally invalid, a distinction that mattered little as hyperlocal trust did most of the actual work.
