Begudà is a small village in the Garrotxa comarca of Girona province — a settlement with no meaningful financial infrastructure of its own. Like hundreds of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, it issued emergency paper scrip in 1937 because the Republic's coin supply had effectively collapsed, hoarded or melted down as the war ground on. The Consell Municipal stepped in as a surrogate monetary authority out of sheer necessity.
Imprenta C. Barnés of Palamós produced notes for several of these small Catalan councils, making it a regionally significant printer of Civil War-era local currency despite its modest scale. Turró catalogues this issue as #339.
