Bechí is a small municipality in Castellón province, and like hundreds of similar towns across Republican-controlled Spain, its local council issued emergency paper money during the Civil War after metallic coin effectively vanished from circulation. The Consell Municipal's authority to do so derived from a decree permitting local bodies to fill the gap — not from any formal banking arrangement.
Gari Montllor's catalog of Valencian Community emergency issues documents this as a scarce survivor from a very limited print run. Provincial council notes from Castellón tend to be underrepresented in collections relative to those from Barcelona or Valencia city, simply because fewer people were there to preserve them.
