Vil·la de Salut L'Aliança was a mutual aid society in Barcelona's Gràcia district, and like dozens of similar organizations during the early months of the Civil War, it issued its own fractional currency when the Republic's small change effectively disappeared from circulation. The coin shortage of 1936–37 was severe enough that hospitals, cooperatives, and worker societies became de facto issuers — a chaotic but functional stopgap that Republican authorities eventually moved to suppress and standardize.

Tipografia Emporium was a working Barcelona press, not a security printer. These notes were never meant to outlast the war.
