Baños — almost certainly Baños de Montemayor in Cáceres — was one of hundreds of Spanish municipalities that issued their own fractional emergency notes during the Civil War peseta shortage of 1936–1937. The Ayuntamiento series from small Extremaduran towns like this one were produced locally, often on whatever card stock was available, with no central oversight over design or denomination. Gari's catalog remains the primary reference for these vales municipales, and the Mon#229-A designation suggests a known but uncommon variant within his classification.
