Antella is a small municipality in Valencia province, and like hundreds of other Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency small change when Republican-zone coinage disappeared from circulation almost entirely after 1936. These municipal issues — collectively catalogued in the Turró and Gari Montolio references — were produced locally, often on whatever card stock was available, which accounts for the variation in substrate thickness seen across surviving pieces.

The Turró and Gari references list multiple variants for Antella's 25 céntimos, and minor differences in paper weight or ink color between them are common enough to complicate attribution.
