One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, when the Republic's central supply of coin and small currency collapsed almost immediately after July 1936. Anglès, a small industrial town in the Girona comarca known for its textile mills, issued its own scrip under the authority granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, which formally sanctioned local paper money to keep daily commerce functioning.
The Turró catalog remains the definitive reference for these Catalan municipals, and Anglès appears as a single entry — suggesting the town issued only this one value, or that other denominations simply haven't survived in enough quantity to be cataloged separately.
