Almoster is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when the Republic's small-change supply collapsed in 1936–37. These local emissions — called *moneda local* or *vals* — filled a genuine transactional void, not a political one, though the timing and the atmosphere were inseparable from the war.

Imprenta Solé in Tarragona handled a number of these municipal commissions across the province, which gives the series a certain regional coherence. Turró#127 is the standard catalog reference for Almoster's 25 céntimos within the exhaustive documentation of Spanish Civil War local issues.
