Almenar is a small municipality in Lleida, Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Spanish towns it resorted to printing its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These locally issued paper fractions, known collectively as paper moneda, were produced under Republican-controlled municipal authority with no standardization in format, quality, or quantities between towns.

At 52 × 40 mm on card stock, this is a genuinely tiny piece of fiscal infrastructure — printed for purely transactional necessity and almost never formally redeemed.
