Alfara dels Ports is a small inland municipality in the comarca of Els Ports, Castelló — far from any major financial center. Like hundreds of Catalan and Valencian towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional emergency currency in 1937 after small-denomination Republican coinage effectively disappeared from circulation, hoarded or melted down. These local emissions were technically authorized under decrees issued by the Generalitat de Catalunya, though in practice the municipal councils acted with considerable autonomy in their designs and print runs.

The printer, Successors de la Gràfica de P. (E. C.) on Carrer Borrell in Barcelona, handled a substantial number of similar municipal commissions during this period. Turró 97 places this note within a well-documented but geographically obscure group.
