Alcalá del Júcar is a tiny cliff-top municipality in Albacete province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it resorted to locally-produced fractional scrip during the Civil War when Republican-zone small change — copper and silver — vanished almost immediately through hoarding and disruption. These municipal emissions were technically unauthorized but widely tolerated out of necessity. The Consejo Municipal issues from this area are among the more obscure provincial pieces; Gari Mon#70-A is poorly documented in terms of print run or precise emission date, which itself tells you something about how improvised the whole operation was.
