Albuñol is a small municipality in the Granada province of Andalusia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its ayuntamiento issued emergency fractional paper when coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation after 1936. Republican-zone municipalities were effectively left to solve the small-change crisis themselves, with no coordinated central solution — the result was thousands of locally produced pieces of wildly varying quality and authority.

The official stamp was the primary mechanism asserting legitimacy. Without it, the paper had no standing whatsoever.
