Aguilar de Alfambra is a tiny Aragonese village in the Teruel uplands — population barely in the hundreds even before the Civil War devastated the region. Its municipal council issued this 25 céntimos note as part of the broader wave of emergency fractional currency that swept Republican-held Spain from 1936 onward, when coin hoarding and metal requisitions left small transactions impossible. Thousands of Spanish municipalities did the same; most issues survive in small quantities simply because the villages themselves were small.

The official stamp is the only security measure — practical enough given that counterfeiting a 25-céntimo village scrip from a remote Teruel municipality would have been pointless.
