Additional information

Honduras contracted the Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke and later relied on foreign mints — including Philadelphia and Birmingham — for much of its 19th-century coinage, as domestic striking capacity remained limited. The 1881 pattern issues were part of a broader effort to standardize the national coinage following years of inconsistent output, with multiple proposed designs submitted for official approval before regular production types were confirmed.

Fewer than a handful of specimens from this pattern series are documented in major collections.
