Obverse description The Dominican Republic national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing crossed lances, a Bible, and a cross, flanked by a laurel branch to the left and a palm frond to the right. A ribbon scroll below the shield bears the legend REPUBLICA DOMINICANA, while a banner across the upper portion of the shield reads DIOS PATRIA LIBERTAD. The circular legend 25 CENTAVOS * REPUBLICA DOMINICANA arcs around the periphery, with the date 1983 appearing in the lower field flanked by two five-pointed stars. The design is executed in high relief against a smooth field, bordered by a continuous inner ring of beading.
