Abkhazia's apsar exists in a peculiar monetary limbo — the territory issues its own banknotes but operates almost entirely on the Russian ruble in daily commerce. The apsar is non-convertible and not accepted as payment anywhere in any practical sense, which makes these notes collector items from the moment of printing rather than functional currency. Goznak's Moscow facility has handled the series throughout, giving the notes a production quality that far exceeds their monetary utility.
The QR code security feature is an unusual choice for a note with essentially no circulation — it suggests the Bank of Abkhazia is at minimum performing the vocabulary of modern currency design.
