Additional information

Anton Aškerc (1856–1912) was a Slovenian Catholic priest who abandoned clerical life to write poetry — his ballads and romances drew heavily on South Slavic oral tradition and positioned him as one of the first major secular voices in Slovenian literature. This coin was issued in the year marking the 150th anniversary of his birth, part of the Bank of Slovenia's long-running commemorative gold program that accelerated notably in the final years before the country adopted the euro in January 2007, making issues like this among the last gold tolarjev denominateed coins the republic would produce.
