Additional information

Mongolia's 1996 bullion program coincided with the country's turbulent post-Soviet economic restructuring, when the Bank of Mongolia was actively developing hard-currency instruments to attract foreign capital. The half-troy-ounce .9999 fine gold format placed this issue squarely in competition with established bullion coins from the Perth and Royal Canadian mints — an ambitious positioning for a relatively new issuing authority.

Mintage figures for this type remain poorly documented in Western references, with KM#147 listings varying across catalog editions.
