Ecuador had abandoned the sucre entirely by 2006 — the country dollarized in 2000 following a catastrophic banking crisis that wiped out personal savings across the economy. This piece is therefore a commemorative fiction: a denomination in a currency that no longer existed, issued six years after that currency's death. It holds no face value that could ever have been spent.
