Additional information

Trial strikes — or "essais" in French minting tradition — were produced as test pieces to verify die quality and metal flow before full production runs, and were rarely released through normal channels. Burkina Faso's coin program in this period was administered largely through the Monnaie de Paris and various European private mints serving the CFA franc zone, meaning these trials often ended up in the hands of dealers and collectors rather than any central bank archive.
