Obverse description Pillars-and-Globes type design featuring two crowned Pillars of Hercules flanking a pair of crowned hemispheres representing the Old and New Worlds, set upon a wave-form exergue. A large ornate crown surmounts the central globe device. The circular legend reads VTRAQUE VNUM and PLUS VLTR, with the Santiago mint mark (So) and date 1764 in the lower field. An applied Portuguese counterstamp 'MR' — authorizing the coin for circulation in Mozambique at 2400 Réis — is prominently struck into the central field of the obverse.
