Obverse description Central device comprises the elaborately interlaced royal cypher of Frederik V — the conjoined letters 'F' and '5' rendered in a bold script monogram — surmounted by an ornate royal crown with arched bands and cross finial. The monogram is presented in high relief against a flat field. The circumferential legend, separated by dot stops, reads D·G·DAN·NOR·VAN·GOT·REX, affirming the king's sovereignty by divine grace over Denmark, Norway, the Wends, and the Goths. The overall design is characteristic of the restrained Baroque engraving style prevalent at the Copenhagen Mint in the mid-eighteenth century.
