Additional information

Hadrumetum, one of the oldest Phoenician foundations on the North African coast, retained the right to strike local bronze coinage under Augustus — an autonomy extended selectively to cities that had demonstrated loyalty during the civil wars. This piece names C. Livinius Gallus as quinquennalis, the senior magistracy of the colony, a post held every five years and considered prestigious enough to merit commemoration on the civic coinage. The quinquennalis dating allows reasonably tight chronology, which is why the two-year window holds.
