| Reverse description | A reclining female nude, depicted in a classically idealized manner, is seated at an elevated position with one arm extended upward toward the light. She gazes outward through an ornate arched window rendered in the Manueline architectural style, with a medieval castle framing the view of the sea beyond. A radiant midday sun emanates from behind the left pillar of the window arch, casting symbolic light over the composition. The denomination 21 ECUS appears in the lower legend, flanked by the commemorative inscription referencing the autonomy of the Madeiran archipelago. The date range 1976–1996 is incorporated into the upper arc of the reverse legend. |
