| Obverse description | A highly detailed coiled dragon occupies the central field, rendered in high relief within a beaded inner circle. The dragon faces left with an open mouth, its sinuous body and scaled tail filling the entirety of the inner field. Chinese characters arranged in a horizontal band flank the beaded circle on the left and right, reading the issuer legend, while the denomination legend is inscribed below the beaded circle at the base of the coin. Decorative dot separators punctuate the legends. The overall design is consistent with early Meiji-era engraving conventions, employing traditional East Asian iconographic vocabulary. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a central radiant sunburst motif emanating from the centre of the field. Surrounding the sunburst, twelve heraldic seals alternate between five paulownia (kiri) crests and seven chrysanthemum (kiku) crests, arranged in a ring to fill the field. The paulownia seals each display the characteristic three-branched flower cluster of the government emblem, while the chrysanthemum seals bear the sixteen-petal imperial flower. The composition is tightly organised in a circular pattern, consistent with early Meiji trial coinage design standards. |
