Tibet's copper coinage of this period was produced at the Dode mint outside Lhasa, a facility notorious for inconsistent striking pressure and poorly prepared planchets. The result is a type where virtually no two examples look alike in terms of centering or surface quality — not a grading consideration so much as a structural fact about how the mint operated. The political backdrop matters: these years coincided with the 13th Dalai Lama's attempts to modernize Tibetan institutions following the chaos of both British and Chinese incursions in the preceding decade.
