Reverse description Central device comprises the quartered arms of the Union of South Africa surmounted by a Tudor crown, the shield bearing in its four quarters symbols representative of the constituent provinces: an anchor, a lion passant, an orange tree, and a ox wagon. The date is divided by the shield, with the first two digits to the left and the last two to the right of the arms. The engraver's initials K.G. appear at the base of the shield. The bilingual legend SOUTH-AFRICA ZUID-AFRIKA arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 2 1/2 SHILLINGS flanked by the numeral 2 1/2 on each side curves around the lower periphery, all within a beaded border.
