Reverse description The reverse is printed in dark olive-green on a pale ground, centred on the Garuda Pancasila coat of arms with the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika ribbon below. A panel to the left carries the denomination "DUA SETENGAH RUPIAH", flanked at each corner by the numeral 2½ within ornate guilloche frames, while an anti-counterfeiting statutory text in Indonesian fills the right panel. The printer's imprint "SECURITY BANKNOTE COMPANY" appears at the foot.

Comments

Indonesia's early republican issues were shared between domestic printers and foreign security printing houses while the new government worked to build credible currency infrastructure. The SBNC contract for this series placed production in Philadelphia at a moment when Indonesian-printed notes were still vulnerable to counterfeiting — the American connection was a deliberate quality guarantee, not mere convenience.

The 2½ denomination itself is a Dutch inheritance, rooted in decades of guilder-based fractional reckoning in the archipelago. Retaining it after independence was a practical concession to a public still thinking in old subdivisions.
