| Obverse description | The obverse displays a Portuguese royal counterstamp applied to the field of the host piece, consisting of a prominent eight-pointed star or stylized rosette motif struck in high relief at the centre. The star device is surrounded by a circular border of raised pellets forming an inner ring, all contained within a recessed rectangular cartouche. The rough, hammered surface of the host piece is clearly visible beyond the cartouche, indicative of the primitive casting and hand-finishing techniques employed in colonial Mozambique gold currency production. |

| Reverse description | The reverse of this irregular rectangular gold piece presents a plain, heavily scratched field with the denomination incused in large raised numerals reading '2 1/2', applied as a counterstamp denoting the value of 2 1/2 Maticais. The numerals are boldly rendered in a simple serif style against the flat, unadorned gold surface. The flan exhibits the characteristic irregular edges and casting marks typical of locally produced Mozambican gold currency, with no additional legend, border, or decorative element present. |
