Obverse description Central shield bearing the Nuremberg city arms (a diagonal bend sinister with an eagle displayed in chief), supported by elaborate foliate and strapwork mantling. The date appears in large numerals at the base of the design, with the mintmaster's mark (R) placed within parentheses between the date digits. A circular legend in Latin characters runs along the periphery of the coin, within a milled border.
