Kutch maintained its own coinage rights throughout the nineteenth century under a succession of treaties with the British Crown, striking silver in a tradition that predated Company rule entirely. Khengarji III, who ruled from 1876 to 1942, was one of the longer-reigning princes of the era and navigated the complex obligations of paramountcy with considerable diplomatic skill — his state retained minting privileges longer than most.
The .937 fineness is notably high for a princely issue, reflecting the older Kutchi silver standard rather than the British Indian norm.
