| Obverse description | The obverse features the Portuguese Republic's coat of arms rendered in the left field, with the denomination '2,50 EURO' prominently displayed to its right in a bold numeral format. A stylized panoramic skyline of Porto's historic centre occupies the upper portion of the field, presented as a silhouetted cityscape. The legend 'REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA' arcs along the lower rim, with the date '2008' positioned centrally above it in the exergual area. The overall design combines heraldic and topographic elements in a clean, modern composition. |

| Additional information |
Porto's historic centre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996, but the city's significance as a trading port predates that recognition by roughly two millennia — Roman settlement at Portus Cale gave Portugal its name. The 2 1/2 Euro denomination itself is an INCM invention with no circulation equivalent, created expressly for this collector series launched in 2007.
KM#824a designates the proof striking; a base-metal circulation version exists as KM#824.
