Obverse description The obverse features the crowned Dutch royal arms at centre, depicting a rampant lion within a shield surmounted by a royal crown, all set within a beaded inner border. The date 1858 is divided on either side of the shield, with the denomination 2½ CENT. inscribed in the lower field. The circular legend NEDERLANDSCH INDIE. runs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, identifying the issuing territory of the Netherlands East Indies.
