| Obverse description | A detailed depiction of a Protea flower in full bloom occupies the central field, rendered with finely engraved petals and foliage including two prominent leaves on a stem. The bilingual legend 'SUID-AFRIKA' to the left and 'AFURIKA-TSHIPEMBE' to the right arcs around the upper periphery, separated by the floral motif. The date '1999' appears in the lower exergue.
