Obverse description The central field displays the crowned Dutch royal arms, flanked by the date on either side of the shield. The colonial inscription NEDERLANDSCH INDIE appears along the upper legend, with the denomination 21/2 CENT inscribed in the lower portion of the design. A mint mark P, where present, appears at the lower right of the shield, indicating Philadelphia Mint production. The overall design follows the standard colonial heraldic convention of the period.
