Obverse description Central device depicts a Phrygian liberty cap set upon a pole, rendered in relief within a raised inner circle. The cap bears the inscription LIBERTAD across its band, symbolizing freedom. Surrounding the inner circle, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS DE COLOMBIA arcs along the upper periphery, while a row of nine eight-pointed stars is arranged along the lower portion of the annular field. The overall design is executed in a restrained neoclassical style consistent with mid-to-late nineteenth-century Latin American coinage.
