Additional information

Poland's independence on November 11, 1918 came not through a single decisive event but through the simultaneous collapse of three partitioning empires — Russian, German, and Austro-Hungarian — within months of each other. The timing was historically improbable. Piłsudski was released from Magdeburg fortress by the Germans on November 10th; by the following day he was effectively commander of a reconstituted Polish state that had not existed on any map for 123 years.

At 217.70 grams of .9999 fine gold, this is a substantial bullion-adjacent commemorative — one of the heavier single pieces Mennica Polska has produced in its modern commemorative program.
