The People's Bank of China has issued Lunar New Year gold coins annually since 1981, making it one of the longest-running bullion series from any sovereign mint. The 150g denomination sits at the upper end of the standard annual release weights, which in recent issues also include 8g, 15g, and 30g options struck to the same fineness. Mintages for the heavier pieces are considerably tighter than the smaller weights.
2022 marked the Year of the Tiger under the sexagenary cycle — specifically the Water Tiger, a combination that recurs only every 60 years.
