Additional information

The 2000 Yuan lunar gold series occupies an unusual position in Chinese commemorative coinage — these are legal tender issues with face values that bear no relationship to their bullion worth, a fiction maintained purely for sovereignty protocol. The 5-ounce format was introduced to satisfy collector demand for larger-format lunar pieces without committing to the 10-ounce or 1-kilogram issues the Mint also produces.

2015 marks the second cycle appearance of the Goat in the People's Bank lunar program, the first having run in 2003.
