Additional information

China's lunar gold series has issued 2000 yuan kilo-weight pieces consistently since the early 1980s, but the 2015 Goat issue belongs to the second full cycle through the twelve-animal sequence — the first cycle having concluded in 1992. Mintages on these kilo pieces are tightly controlled by the People's Bank and historically run in the low thousands, with the 2015 issue reported at 10,000 pieces, unusually high for the denomination.

The Shengxiao cycle these coins track dates to the Han Dynasty, around the 2nd century BC.
