The Bank of Pei Hai (北海銀行) was a Communist-controlled regional bank established in Shandong in 1938, one of several guerrilla-zone financial institutions the CCP used to fund operations and stabilize liberated areas during both the war against Japan and the subsequent civil war. By 1948, the bank was effectively being wound down — the People's Bank of China was formally established in December of that year, and Pei Hai notes were progressively retired and converted.
The "N" suffix on the Pick reference typically denotes a note confirmed but not fully catalogued at time of publication — provenance and surviving population for this specific variety remain poorly documented.
