Part of Mongolia's ongoing lunar calendar series, this issue was produced for the international bullion and collector market rather than domestic circulation — the face value is essentially ceremonial given the gold content. The Bank of Mongolia contracted production of many these pieces to foreign mints, primarily in Europe, during the early 2000s.
