Additional information

Protoceratops andrewsi was named for Roy Chapman Andrews, whose American Museum of Natural History expeditions into the Gobi Desert during the 1920s produced the first confirmed dinosaur eggs ever recovered — a discovery that briefly caused diplomatic friction between the AMNH and the Mongolian government over specimen ownership. The species remains one of the most abundantly documented ceratopsians in the fossil record, almost entirely from Mongolian deposits.

Mongolia has issued a substantial run of large-format silver pieces in this wildlife and paleontology series, several carrying the same 2000 Tögrög face value at identical specifications.
