| Reverse description | The national coat of arms of Guinea is displayed prominently at centre, featuring a shield charged with an elephant passant against a vertically striped background, surmounted by a dove in flight with an olive branch. Two scrolled ribbons flank the shield bearing the mottoes TRAVAIL, JUSTICE, and SOLIDARITE, with a lower scroll inscribed JUSTICE. The denomination 2000 SYLIS appears in large raised numerals and letters in the lower field, with the date 1977 immediately above. A decorative serrated inner border frames the entire design, and the Valcambi mint mark (CHI) is visible on the right ribbon. |

Issued in 1977 to honor Ahmed Sékou Touré, Guinea's first president and the man who famously rejected de Gaulle's offer of continued French ties in 1958, choosing immediate independence over the French Community. France responded by withdrawing all personnel and aid within two months — some accounts describe officials destroying infrastructure on the way out. The Sylis, introduced in 1971 to replace the Guinean franc, was itself a deliberate break from colonial monetary arrangements.
