| Obverse description | Central field features two confronted rats flanking a large diamond-shaped Chinese seal character, surrounded by stylized lotus blossoms, cloud scrolls, and foliate ornaments in a traditional East Asian decorative composition. Uganda's lunar series entries from the mid-1990s were produced primarily for export to Asian collector markets, where demand for silver rat-year issues was reliably strong regardless of the issuing country. The Bank of Uganda had no particular cultural stake in the Chinese lunar calendar — this was straightforward numismatic commerce, struck to order by a contracted European mint and never intended for domestic circulation.
