Uganda's commemorative program of the mid-2000s leaned heavily on international football icons, issuing silver-plated pieces for a market driven almost entirely by thematic collectors rather than circulation. Gullit's selection reflects his reputation as one of the most technically complete players of the 1980s — a Dutch international who captained the Netherlands to their only major international trophy at UEFA Euro 1988 and won back-to-back European Cups with AC Milan under Arrigo Sacchi.
