Uganda issued a wave of licensed FIFA World Cup promotional coins in the mid-2000s, this being one of several denominations bearing individual player likenesses ahead of the 2006 Germany tournament. The Bank of Uganda's involvement was largely nominal — these pieces were produced for the collector market by private minting contractors under FIFA licensing arrangements, not for any domestic monetary purpose.
Ronaldo here almost certainly refers to the Brazilian striker Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, who had scored twice in the 2002 final and entered 2006 as a headline name despite declining form.
