| Additional information |
Issued to mark John Paul II's death in April 2005, this coin was part of a wave of commemoratives released by smaller nations holding papal licensing agreements with the Vatican — Uganda among several African issuers that produced silver pieces within months of his passing. John Paul II visited Uganda in 1993, the second papal visit to the country following Paul VI's 1969 trip, which lends the issue at least some geographic legitimacy rather than being purely opportunistic.
KM#282 is catalogued without a mintage figure in most references.
